Are Police Fraud Investigations the Tip of the Iceberg

In 2015, the Western Australia police announced that ‘fraud has been identified as the most expensive crime category in Australia, with fraud and deception-related offences believed to be the largest category of all federal offences from all levels of Australian courts’. They added that only 25 percent of fraud cases ever reach their attention. This confirms that police fraud investigations really are the tip of the iceberg.  Read more article here >

On 9 August 2016 the government announced a cyber-intelligence unit, aimed at identifying ‘terrorism financing, money laundering and financial fraud online’. Justice Minister Michael Keenan described these as ‘unprecedented threats to national security … and … a key enabler of serious and organized crime and terrorism’. We have come to a sad day when our enemy robs us to finance his attacks.

Is Successful Fraud Investigation an Effective Counter Measure?

We believe that determined investigation is the most effective form of law enforcement, particularly when it comes to the hardened criminals we are up against. Sadly, 75% of fraud cases never come to the attention of the police by their own admission. The reasons for this are numerous and they deserve urgent attention.

*  Many fraud victims are afraid to come forward because they are embarrassed

*  Some victims fear persecution because the offences relate to drugs and vice

 *  Others do nothing about it because ‘the police never solve these crimes’

With the exception of an obligation to report serious crimes to the police, we never sit in judgement over clients. If someone has defrauded you, we will find them discretely if this is humanly possible. Then it is up to you to take the matter further.

Fraud Investigations: QLD Covert Investigations’ Commonest Cases

Compared to these dramatic government revelations, our fraud investigations are mundane, and usually involve two parties that know each other surprisingly well. Among these are

*  Business partners that trusted each other too recklessly

 *  Spouses who thought that love rendered deception impossible

 *  Divorced couples that find themselves unable to share their estate

Many of these cases fall in the category of ‘too embarrassing to make public’. They never reach the public ear because the victim fears publicity. Qld Covert Investigations operates so unobtrusively most people do not know we even exist.

After we track fraudsters, down the possibility of prosecution may cause them to hand the money over, without the need to do anything else. If you would like to know more about our fraud investigations, please call 1300 553 788 now.
